Air Date: Sept. 12, 2025
Good Saturday evening everyone and welcome to Six Degrees Ohio on Wadsworth Community Radio 97.1 FM and online and we are proudly unwritten by a generous grant from the Medina County Arts Council so there are other people out there who appreciate what we do and think that what we do is cool.
People out there other than our moms think what we're doing is cool and is a good effort but no seriously guys that it's awesome to know that there is somebody out there who thinks that what we do is worth promoting or worth funding for Wadsworth Community Radio and we think that it's an awesome thing that they think that we are doing a good thing. If you could unravel that you'd probably get a men's surprise of some sort. So this is for Air Date 9-13-2025 and this is episode 198 and I want to make sure that we say thank you to Tom and Tina.
If you see them out on the boulevard and the avenue in Wadsworth, Ohio make sure you stop them and thank them for the opportunity for us to gather around the radio tubes every Saturday night at 8 p.m. Eastern, where are we right now, Eastern Daylight Time. I think we're on Daylight Time for a few more weeks and the days are getting shorter so we're going to be switching to Standard Time pretty soon but I do notice that the days are getting shorter because it was getting dark starting around 7 p.m. last night so things are starting to turn towards fall which fall is my favorite time of the year anyway so I'm not going to complain one bit other than it seems like the last couple of falls have happened super fast and they were done and over with before I even could notice that it was happening so hopefully this fall will be a little bit stretched out.
I think we've had two false falls or false autumns or whatever they're called so it's turned into autumn twice so far but today it's like 80 degrees outside. It's not super humid but it's you know it's not fall weather so we get to enjoy that once again in the next couple weeks so anyway we have new music this week from Mike's Wilson, Tamara Burke, and Ben Burbank. Burbank.
I think I got that right. Ben Burbank and I will be back after these important messages actually after these important tracks.
And that set featured Mike's Wilson with you and The Jerk and Tamara Burke's OCD and Stay Close By. And Mike's Wilson is from Columbus and I've looked at this several times and I need to get a hold of him and just ask him. Because I don't know about that apostrophe. Is it Mike's Wilson or Mike Wilson?
So I'm thinking that it's Mike's Wilson because I keep seeing that apostrophe everywhere. So from now on until I heard different, it is Mike's Wilson.
And he is hailing from Columbus.
And we also had Tamara Burke from San Diego by way of Cleveland. And Tamara was born and raised in Cleveland and went to Kent State. And then after Kent State, moved out to San Diego.
And I had a friend from California who I met in Cleveland who was a singer-songwriter, Catherine Beeks. And she moved back to San Diego.
So that is where those two met.
And that is how I was introduced to her, to Tamara, was through Catherine Beeks. And I'm sure you've heard that name a bazillion times on this show.
But it just kind of goes to show you why I named this show Six Degrees of Ohio. Because really, there's only one degree of Ohio around here.
If you're in music and you do any kind of music stuff, it is one degree of Ohio. So hopefully you dug that.
And I will be back.
And that set featured Van Arlo with Can't Go Home And Play to Win And Ben Burbrink with Fall Too Fast And Rosewood Avenue And Love Lag with The Best of Me And before going on I need to mention that Van Arlo Is doing a show at Wild Oscars in Akron With a string quartet And that is inside the Akron Civic Theater And it is I think there's a side room I've been to a few shows at a side room But I think this is a revamped side room It's a whole different thing But it's a new room off the side of the Akron Civic Theater And this is September 27th And it's Van Arlo with Shelby Olive I don't know much about Shelby Olive I don't know anything about Shelby Olive But it's also Nate Vail And Nate Vail is one of the brothers That runs the Rialto in Kenmore And he is in a band named Ashes And I did see those guys at Akron Port Chalker A few weeks ago And they were awesome They are always awesome Those guys always have a massive crowd over there It's pretty boss But so Van Arlo, Shelby Olive, and Nate Vail Are all going to be there on the 27th And I have not put it in my calendar yet Because I need to consult the forces that be About my calendar And make sure that that's safe to add to my calendar A lot of stuff going on lately And I want to make sure that If I say I'm going to be there I'm going to be there But I'm going to say that You can probably guess that I'm going to be there And I'm sorry for that noise going on in the background You might hear a small engine running Something's going on in the backyard But at the very beginning of the show I always said that I was going to let Whatever happens out my window Happen out the window Because the show is about music from Ohio And we are in Ohio And Ohio has distinctive sounds Like if I were to record this at night You'd hear the owl that sits outside of my window at night You might hear baby foxes Which have been mistaken for the kukui in past incarnations You might hear stray neighborhood dogs Or raccoons Or whatever out there So this is Ohio And I figured that's my way to contribute to Somebody who might be out of the area And missing home You'll be able to hear that And remember all the sounds of home And we also had Ben Burbank with Sorry We did have Ben Burbank with Fall Too Fast And Rosewood Avenue And he is from Youngstown And I forgot the date of the show But he has a date A show coming up And I'll definitely put that in the Facebook feed But he does have a show coming up in Youngstown It's going to be an acoustic show Youngstown is a little far for me So I will see if I can make it out But I don't know It's kind of an all day affair If I head up that far We're about I feel like two hours from Youngstown But I'd have to double check And we also had Love Lang Which is Chris Donnelly's project Love Lang with The Best of Me And that's Chris Donnelly's project And if you are familiar with this show at all You know Chris Donnelly from all his incarnations before His latest one You know I'm not going to say any news I'm not sure what I'm supposed to talk about on that I will get a hold of Donnelly And see if we can talk about that kind of stuff About what's next for him And what his new adventures are And that being said I'm going to go ahead and play some more music And I'll be back
